Cleaning the kitchen floor in a professional environment

This blog post will cover cleaning the kitchen floor in a professional environment.

Important: Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking any cleaning task and follow the manufacturer’s product use and where relevant dilution guidance.

Place a wet floor sign in a prominent place.

Sweep and remove all pieces of food and other residue with a broom.

Select an appropriate floor degreasing product, taking care to select the product that is suitable for the type of floor that you have.

Dilute the product in a bucket according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and use a mop (or spray bottle if the area is small)to apply to the floor. Do not pre-wet the floor as this may affect the degreasing process.

Scrub the degreaser onto the floor surface with a good deck brush. Additional scrubbing may be needed in heavily soiled areas around fryers and food preparation areas.

Leave the degreaser to work for the length of time recommended by the manufacturer – this is essential if the degreaser is to work effectively.

Rinse the floor with a mop and collect the contaminated/dirty water into a mop bucket: alternatively use a floor squeegee or a wet pick-up vacuum cleaner.

If possible, empty the mop bucket into a different drain each night. The degreaser will help to maintain the floor drains.

Store your deck brush in a clean bucket of degreaser each night to ensure that it stays clean.

For large floor areas, or areas of high traffic, it may be more appropriate to use either high pressure wash equipment or a steam cleaner in order to achieve a good cleaning result on your floor surface.
