Cleaning ice machines

This will cover best practice in cleaning ice machines.


Important: Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking any cleaning task and follow the manufacturer’s product use and where relevant dilution guidance.

Check the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions before you start and always follow follow these in preference to the tips set out below.

Turn off the power supply and unplug the ice machine.

Remove any remaining ice.

Take off any removable parts.

Using a clean disposable cloth and hot water with detergent diluted according to the manufacturer’s instructions, thoroughly clean the corners, drainage, grilles, seals and ceilings of the machine. Do the same for any removed parts.

Scrub the water distribution tubes with a brush to remove any scale build up.

Rinse with clean water to remove the detergent.

Apply a sanitiser according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This can be applied through the ice clean cycle.

Rinse with clean water to remove the sanitiser. This can be applied through the ice clean cycle.

Allow the ice machine to dry thoroughly before switching back on.
