Cleaning the freezer and walk-in refrigerator

We are today going to be covering best practice for cleaning the freezer and walk-in refrigerator.

Warning!

Important: Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking any cleaning task and follow the manufacturer’s product use and where relevant dilution guidance.

Cleaning the refrigerator and freezer (daily clean)

Turn off and unplug the refrigerator.

Remove all food and cover.

Take out all of the removable parts, such as shelves, drip pans, wire racking, etc.

Wash the removed items in warm water with detergent added, diluted according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.

Now clean the inside of the refrigerator. Use warm water with detergent added to thoroughly clean the inner walls and into the corners. Use a detergent with sufficient strength to remove any stubborn spills.

Wipe the exterior of the refrigerator with a disposable cloth soaked in a detergent solution.

Clean the door gasket with a soft, disposable cloth and wipe away any residue with a second clean damp disposable cloth.

Dry the interior and exterior with a clean dry cloth or paper wiper. Allow also to air dry for a short period.

Return any removable parts to their original location.

Return the removed food.

Clean the walk-in refrigerator (monthly clean)

Remove all food and removable parts from the fridge.

Defrost the fridge according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Sweep the floor of the refrigerator and remove any food debris from the walls.

Soak a disposable cloth in an appropriate detergent solution, diluted according to manufacturer’s instructions. Use a detergent with sufficient strength to be able to remove any stubborn spills. Rinse with clean, warm water.

Mop the floor using a warm water detergent solution. Mop rinse with clean, warm water.

Wipe the exterior of the refrigerator with a disposable cloth soaked in a kitchen detergent solution.

Clean the door gasket with a soft, disposable cloth and wipe away any residue with a second clean damp disposable cloth.

Dry the interior and exterior with a clean dry cloth or paper wiper. Allow also to air dry for a short period.

Return any parts you have removed to their original position.

Return the food to the refrigerator.
